Owner and main hiking guide of Canarian-Spirit, its me, Uwe Lau,
registred as "Intermediador Turística" de Gobierno de Canarias, Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deportes No.: I-0004547.1 as well as Turismo Activo. Depending on the needs, I work together with various colleagues who are friends of mine.
Born 1962 in northern Germany (Bremen), I did little hiking before Tenerife. I have worked for over 20 years as a registered geriatric nurse and therefore a lot with people. This should also remain so in my new home.
I landed on Tenerife in 2011 more by chance than anything else after a life crisis. But there I found the two loves of my life: The island and my wife (in that order 😊). Very quickly, instead of biking, I discovered hiking for myself and am still out in nature with great enthusiasm. Since 2014 I work as a self-employed hiking guide, since 2015 even full-time.
Hobby's are besides hiking, especially exploring Tenerife with family, friends and my BMW 1150 GS Adv. year 2002. This means not only the roads, but explicitly also the country, people and the delicious food. What I love about Tenerife (besides the family) is its diversity and the friendly, open-minded people. Even after 10 years there are still corners and angles that surprise us/me. So, during the Corona crisis, my wife Sylvia and I discovered a lot of corners unknown to us, which I would like to share with you.
A frequent question is that of my favorite hike: There really is no one. On an island of this diversity, one can afford the luxury of designing the tour according to your personal condition of the day. My wife prefers the cloudy, humid north even with rain. I prefer it at least dry and also like to be out and about "in the (stone) desert". In Germany, the saying goes: If you have a choice, you're spoiled for choice. Think in English it´s: Heavy is the head that wears the crown . By the way, this is how the questionnaire for you in the orientation guide came about.
In any case, I wish you a wonderful time on Tenerife.
